Every Bellevue Youth Choirs ensemble combines joyful music-making, Kodály-inspired musicianship, meaningful performances, and a welcoming community where every singer is challenged, supported, and inspired to grow.
Prelude introduces our youngest singers to the joy of making music together through singing, movement, play, and imagination. Rooted in the Kodály philosophy, rehearsals are filled with games, folk songs, storytelling, and creative movement that help children develop a love of music while building the foundational skills they'll use for years to come.
Musical Foundations
Children learn music the same way they learn language: by listening, experiencing, exploring, and eventually understanding. Through singing games, movement, and playful activities, choristers develop pitch matching, steady beat, musical memory, and healthy vocal habits in a joyful, age-appropriate environment.
Singing, Movement & Play
Music comes alive as children move, dance, imagine, and create together. Every rehearsal encourages curiosity, self-expression, and confidence while nurturing a lifelong love of singing.
Family & Performance Experiences
Families are invited into select rehearsals throughout the year to experience what their children are learning and participate alongside them. Prelude singers perform in our March and June Mainstage Concerts, celebrating their musical growth with the full Bellevue Youth Choirs community. Prelude choristers are invited to select outreach performances in the community throughout the season.
A Joyful Community
Prelude is a welcoming place where children make friends, gain confidence, and experience the joy of belonging through music.
Note: BYC choirs are intentionally multi-age. Younger choristers spend their first year learning new skills, while older choristers return to deepen skills, gain confidence, and step into leadership. Our rotating curriculum keeps the content fresh each year so no one ever "repeats" — every singer is challenged at the right developmental level.
Note: During the three weeks prior to each Mainstage concert, both the 5pm and 6pm Prelude classes rehearse together from 5:30–6:30 p.m. on their regularly scheduled rehearsal day.
