About

Cantare

Participating in BYC’s Cantare Choir offers unique benefits beyond the classroom—helping singers grow as musicians, leaders, and global citizens. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Leadership & Mentorship Opportunities
Serve as a section leader, rehearsal assistant, or mentor for younger singers at concerts and community events.
  • Community Service Hours
Fulfill school or extracurricular service requirements through music! Opportunities include assisting younger choirs, volunteering at events, and performing for retirement communities. BYC can provide documentation upon request.
  • College & Career Readiness
Choir involvement demonstrates commitment, teamwork, and leadership on college and scholarship applications. Participation in high-quality ensembles like Cantare is a meaningful addition to your resume.
  • Workshops & Touring
This past season, Cantare singers participated in an overnight choral festival—Youth Festival NW in Tacoma—with a nationally recognized guest clinician. We look forward to expanding into regional and international tours in future seasons to meet the needs and interests of our families.
  • Exciting Performance Opportunities
In addition to our Mainstage concerts, Cantare sings at community events, festivals, and outreach performances throughout the year.
  • Musicianship & Music Literacy
Singers actively develop skills in music reading, sight-singing, and vocal technique. Rehearsals are structured to support each chorister’s musical growth and confidence.
  • World & Historical Repertoire
BYC singers explore a wide variety of choral music that spans cultures, continents, and centuries. We celebrate movement, joy, connection, and the power of music to express deep human emotions.
  • Inclusive, Welcoming Environment
At BYC, singers find a place to belong and express themselves through music in a diverse, affirming community. We value growth, collaboration, and celebrating each voice.

New choristers are accepted during our Fall and January enrollment periods after a vocal placement/audition.
