Every Bellevue Youth Choirs ensemble combines joyful music-making, Kodály-inspired musicianship, meaningful performances, and a welcoming community where every singer is challenged, supported, and inspired to grow.
Lyrica helps singers transition from learning musical skills to applying them with confidence. Choristers deepen their musicianship, perform increasingly challenging repertoire, and experience the excitement of making beautiful music together while building lasting friendships.
Musicianship & Music Literacy
Singers strengthen their music reading, sight-singing, and vocal technique while developing the confidence to learn music independently. Lyrica performs increasingly independent two- and three-part repertoire that prepares singers for advanced choral singing.
Exciting Performance Opportunities
Lyrica singers perform in our three Mainstage concerts each season in December, March, and June, celebrating their musical growth alongside the full Bellevue Youth Choirs community. Throughout the year, singers also share their music beyond the concert stage through community outreach performances. From holiday events at venues like the Bellevue Botanical Garden and Totem Lake Village to spring performances at farmers markets, retirement communities, and other local events, choristers build confidence while bringing joy and connection to audiences of all ages.
Honor Choirs, Workshops & Touring
Lyrica singers are encouraged to pursue musical opportunities beyond weekly rehearsals. Eligible singers may audition for regional and national honor choirs, such as the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) National Honor Choir. Throughout the year, singers also participate in enriching workshops and choral festivals with guest clinicians. The past two seasons, Lyrica attended Youth Festival NW in Tacoma, and we look forward to expanding regional and international touring opportunities in future seasons.
World & Historical Repertoire
Singers explore music from around the globe and across time. From folk traditions to contemporary works, our repertoire encourages movement, joy, cultural appreciation, and emotional expression.
A Supportive Community
Lyrica is a place where singers develop friendships, grow in confidence, and discover the power of working together toward a shared artistic goal.
Skills That Last a Lifetime
Choir nurtures creativity, perseverance, leadership, communication, and teamwork while preparing singers for the musical challenges of high school and beyond.
Note: BYC choirs are intentionally multi-age. Younger choristers spend their first year learning new skills, while older choristers return to deepen skills, gain confidence, and step into leadership. Our rotating curriculum keeps the content fresh each year so no one ever "repeats"—every singer is challenged at the right developmental level. Placement and progression is determined by BYC staff.
New choristers are accepted during our Fall and January enrollment periods following a vocal placement.
