Enrollment requirements

♫ Excited to learn musicianship skills including rhythm reading, Solfège, singing in multiple parts, and singing in many languages

♫ Want to connect and form relationships with other singers and have a musical community
Before you register
- New choristers are accepted during our Fall and January enrollment periods after a vocal placement/audition.
- Choirs are designed as a full-season experience September–June, with two semesters: September–December and January–June. Families enroll for the full season and may withdraw at designated semester windows with notice. Tuition may be paid monthly, by semester, or annually.
- Vocal placement required.
Every Bellevue Youth Choirs ensemble combines joyful music-making, Kodály-inspired musicianship, meaningful performances, and a welcoming community where every singer is challenged, supported, and inspired to grow.
Intermezzo bridges the gap between beginning choir and advanced ensemble singing. Choristers strengthen their vocal skills, become increasingly independent music readers, and gain confidence singing in harmony, all while building friendships and discovering the joy of making music together.
Musicianship & Music Literacy
Intermezzo singers continue developing vocal technique, music reading, and aural skills through the Kodály approach. Through engaging games, movement, and active music-making, choristers strengthen their understanding of solfege, read increasingly complex rhythms, and become more independent musicians. Singers perform unison, partner songs, and two- to three-part repertoire that prepares them for the next level of choral singing.
Part Singing & Ensemble Skills
As singers grow in confidence, they learn to maintain their own musical part while listening and blending with others. Partner songs, rounds, and independent harmony help develop ensemble awareness, teamwork, and expressive musicianship.
Exciting Performance Opportunities
Intermezzo singers perform in our three Mainstage concerts each season in December, March, and June, celebrating their musical growth alongside the full Bellevue Youth Choirs community. Throughout the year, singers also share their music beyond the concert stage through community outreach performances. From holiday events at venues like the Bellevue Botanical Garden and Totem Lake Village to spring performances at farmers markets, retirement communities, and other local events, choristers build confidence while bringing joy and connection to audiences of all ages.
Each spring, Intermezzo singers are invited to join an optional day tour, giving them the chance to perform, connect with one another, and create lasting memories together.
World & Historical Repertoire
Singers explore music from a variety of cultures, languages, and historical traditions. Whether learning a playful folk dance, singing music from another part of the world, or performing expressive concert repertoire, every piece encourages curiosity, connection, and joy.
A Place to Belong
Intermezzo is a welcoming community where singers laugh, learn, and grow together while building confidence, friendships, and a strong musical foundation.
Skills for Life
Choir develops focus, perseverance, creativity, collaboration, and confidence—skills that benefit singers both on and off the stage.
Note: BYC choirs are intentionally multi-age. Younger choristers spend their first year learning new skills, while older choristers return to deepen skills, gain confidence, and step into leadership. Our rotating curriculum keeps the content fresh each year so no one ever "repeats"—every singer is challenged at the right developmental level. Placement and progression is determined by BYC staff.
