BYC seeks an experienced Collaborative Pianist to join our team and work with our Intermezzo Choir (3rd-6th grade) on Tuesdays from 5-6:30pm and Prima Choir (1st-2nd grade) on Wednesdays from 6-7pm.

Days of Service
Tuesdays and Wednesdays

First Rehearsal
The week of September 10th

BYC follows the BSD calendar and takes the following breaks: one-week Thanksgiving break, two-week winter break, one-week midwinter break, one-week spring break.

Rehearsals
Tuesdays from 5:00pm-6:30pm
Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:00pm

Please note we have a modified rehearsal schedule the three weeks prior to a concert. Your choir may start or end at slightly different times. Additional teaching/playing time will be compensated.

Employee Status
Regular hourly, part-time, September through June. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of
renewal.

Compensation
Pay rate is $50 per hour. 1 hr 30 min for Tuesday rehearsals, 1 hr for Wednesday rehearsals, plus 4 hours per
concert day. Tours and outreach are additional pay when applicable.

Rehearsals are at Cross of Christ Church in Bellevue (411 156th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98007)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom assistance and piano accompaniment for the choral director during rehearsal.
  • Participate in regular choir rehearsals for the season and be available at rehearsal site 10 minutes prior to
    each rehearsal.
  • Accompany the choirs you assist in all mainstage rehearsals and concerts (Tentative Dates: December 7th, March 22nd, June 14th call time noon, concert 3-4pm)
  • Be a confident vocal model for students in rehearsal when necessary.
  • Serve as a role model (rehearsal technique, mutual respect, musical/vocal) for choristers in all choir levels.

Qualifications

  • Formal music training required; degree in collaborative piano, choral conducting, or music education preferred.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of musical styles (e.g. classical, jazz, pop, and traditional folk) and an ability to play piano in several styles.
  • Experience accompanying choirs.
  • Desire to create artistry with young people; experience working with preschool/elementary aged students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with children and adults in a timely manner.

About BYC
Bellevue Youth Choirs (BYC) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 and is comprised of a variety of choir levels serving youth in Pre-K through 12th grade from the greater Bellevue area.

Choristers learn musicianship, vocal technique, performance skills, and participate in Mainstage concerts, outreach and community events, and collaborations with the finest musicians and choral groups. The auditioned choirs participate in regional choral festivals and tours.
